Questions

Everything people ask us.

Where we are, how ordering works, what delivery costs, and how to look after a piece once it is yours.

Visiting & ordering

Where is My Rustic Place located?
My Rustic Place is on the ground floor of Lavington Mall in Nairobi, Kenya, directly opposite Art Café. There is parking in the mall. We open Monday to Friday 9:00am to 6:00pm, Saturday 9:00am to 5:00pm, and Sunday by appointment.
How do I order from My Rustic Place?
You can order three ways: add pieces to your bag and check out on the website, message us on WhatsApp at +254 768 288 608, or visit the showroom at Lavington Mall. Because most pieces are one of a kind, we confirm the item is still available before taking payment.
What payment methods do you accept?
We accept M-Pesa and cash on delivery. Delivery is quoted by size and distance and is agreed with you before any payment is taken, so you pay one correct total rather than being charged twice.
What is the best furniture shop in Nairobi for rustic furniture?
My Rustic Place specialises in rustic and handmade furniture in Nairobi, working in solid and reclaimed timber rather than veneer over board. We are at Lavington Mall, ground floor, opposite Art Café, and everything we sell is made or hand-finished by our own team in Kenya.
Can I buy furniture online in Kenya from My Rustic Place?
Yes. The whole collection is on this website with current prices in Kenyan Shillings, and you can order online, download the full catalogue as a PDF, or message us on WhatsApp. We deliver across Nairobi and countrywide.

Delivery

Do you deliver furniture across Kenya?
Yes. We deliver across Nairobi and countrywide. The cost depends on the size of the piece and the distance, and we confirm it before dispatch. Large furniture is carried in and set where it is going, not left at the gate.
How long does delivery take?
Deliveries within Nairobi are usually made within a few days of an order being confirmed. Upcountry deliveries depend on the route and are arranged case by case. Custom commissions take two to four weeks, and large dining tables or bar counters four to six.

Custom furniture

Can you make furniture to my own measurements?
Yes. Almost every piece we make can be rebuilt to your dimensions or finished in another colour, and we take commissions designed from scratch. There is no design fee: you only pay once the drawing and the price are agreed, starting with a deposit because materials are bought for your piece specifically.
How much does custom furniture cost in Kenya?
Rebuilding one of our existing designs at a different size is usually within about ten per cent of the showroom price. A piece designed from scratch depends on the timber and the complexity, which is what the quotation covers. Our current collection runs from about KSh 7,500 to KSh 180,000.

The furniture

What materials do you use?
We work in solid and reclaimed timber, with epoxy resin for river tables and blackened steel on our industrial pieces. Materials are selected with consideration and respect for nature, environment and people. Nothing is veneer over particle board.
Are the pieces one of a kind?
Most are. Because we work with reclaimed timber, the grain, the colour and the small marks are decided by the wood rather than by a catalogue, so no two pieces come out the same. When one sells, the next will differ.
What is a Ngoma table?
Ngoma is Swahili for drum, and a Ngoma table is a round table carved and hollowed from a single section of trunk. It is the piece our workshop is best known for. Because each one is cut from a different log, the proportions vary between pieces.
What furniture does My Rustic Place sell?
We sell dining tables, coffee and side tables, sideboards and buffets, media consoles, chests and trunks, dressers, study tables, mirrors, clocks, wall art, lighting, and outdoor pieces including bar counters, stools and reclaimed bathtub sofas. We do not stock conventional upholstered sofas or beds.
Is solid wood furniture worth buying?
Solid timber can be sanded back and refinished decades later, which veneer over particle board cannot. That is the practical case for it: a solid piece is repairable, so it stays in use rather than being replaced. It also moves slightly with humidity, which is why small end-grain checking is normal rather than a fault.

Care

How do I care for solid wood furniture?
Dust with a soft dry cloth, wipe spills immediately and dry the surface, and use mats under hot items and coasters under wet ones. Re-oil about twice a year. Avoid all-purpose sprays, bleach, ammonia and silicone polish, which strip an oil finish.
Why has my wooden table developed a small crack?
Fine checking along the end grain of a solid slab is normal and structural. It is the timber releasing tension as humidity changes through the year, and it often closes again in a wetter month. It will not spread through the piece. If a crack opens wide enough to catch a fingernail, send us a photograph.

Returns

What is your returns policy?
If a piece arrives damaged or is not what was agreed, contact us within 48 hours with photographs and we will repair, replace or refund it. Because almost everything is one of a kind and much is made to order, we cannot generally take back a piece for being the wrong size, which is why we offer to check measurements against your room before you buy.
