Wipe spills immediately, especially citrus and alcohol. Dry after cleaning. Re-oil twice a year, more often outdoors.
Fine checking along end grain is normal in solid timber and often closes again in a wetter month, it is the wood responding to humidity, not a fault. Avoid all-purpose sprays, bleach and silicone polish entirely; they strip an oil finish.
