Ngoma Coffee Table
Ngoma is Swahili for drum, and that is exactly what this is: a round table cut from a single section of trunk, carved and hollowed by hand. It is the piece the workshop is best known for, and the one people most often come in to see in person.
- Carved from one section of trunk, not built up from boards
- Round drum form, hollowed and finished inside and out
- Grain runs continuously around the whole piece

Oiled rather than lacquered, which is why it feels like timber rather than plastic, and why it can be refreshed at home.

Keep out of prolonged direct sun, which dries end grain unevenly. Wipe with a barely damp cloth, dry at once, re-oil twice a year.
Fine checking along end grain is normal in solid timber and often closes again in a wetter month, it is the wood responding to humidity, not a fault. Avoid all-purpose sprays, bleach and silicone polish entirely; they strip an oil finish.
